Two decades building real businesses from the inside out.

Trained as an engineer at Bucknell University, Steve Mertz entered the workforce with an instinct to understand how things work — not in theory, but in practice. That foundation became a competitive weapon when he transitioned into commercial roles, consistently ranking among top-performing sales engineers by pairing deep technical fluency with an uncommon ability to close.

In 2010, he acquired a mechanical services company and spent 15 years building it into a multi-division enterprise reaching mid-eight figures in annual revenue — constructed entirely through disciplined execution, operational rigor, and relentless focus on culture. The result was a successful strategic exit.

Today, Steve leads Pacenex on a simple but powerful thesis: AI adoption should be led by operators, not just technologists. His clients aren't looking for a vendor — they're looking for a trusted advisor who has sat in the seat, managed the P&L, built the team, and led through change.
